Scoreboards

The division scoreboards should be updated after each Trivia event. This function can be accessed at http://trivia.outpost10f.com/~divisionname/points.php. It's not a very hard form to use, but there are a few things to keep in mind. The various functions are listed and explained below. Once you're logged into the form, there is a list of five functions.

Add User:

  • Player Name: Pretty straightforward; just type in the player's name. You can use caps, special characters etc. Just make sure that it's the player's registered screen name, e.g., Andrew Maxwell.
  • Player ID: This part will never appear publicly; it is purely for the server. Do not use capital letters here, nor any characters apart from dashes and underscores; it will mess up the database. Give names in lowercase and without spaces, e.g., andrew_maxwell.
  • Real Points: Uhm, straightforward, right? Just – please don't give someone 3.5 points or something. If that's the score you were given, round it off to 4!
  • Silly Points: Same again!
  • You will also see a list of names in alphabetical order. Before you do anything, please make sure to check that the name you want to add isn't already there!

    Edit User:

  • This will give you a list of players already in the database. Select the player you want to edit and click "Edit". Again, you’ll have four fields. You usually don't need to touch the first two at all. Do not, under any circumstances, edit the Player ID; this will mess up the database. If it's misspelled or something, then it's better to leave it that way!
  • For adding RPs or SPs, you need to add the score from the Trivia event to the score that's already there. So, if someone has 5 RPs already, and won another 3 in the latest Trivia, you need to update the number of points to 8.

  • Delete User:

  • This function should only be used if a user has been disqualified for some reason, if their name was entered totally incorrectly (ie, both the Player Name and ID are misleading), or if there is confusion about their identity. The function itself is pretty straightforward!

  • Reset Scoreboard:

  • This function wipes the scoreboard clean and sets up a new one. It is only to be used at the end of each year, when we start over. An additional password is required in order to reset the scoreboard successfully.

  • Update Last Changed:

  • This function allows you to change the date when the scoreboard was last updated. You'll get three fields, for month, day, and year, and the current "Last Changed" date will also show on this page. Please make sure to update this part of the scoreboard as well, when you're done adding the points!

  • Notes on using the scoreboards:

  • It's best to appoint one person to be in charge of the scoreboards. Usually, the DLiT is the likely candidate for this job, but it's equally acceptable to appoint a regular member or for the DL to do it themselves. The only important thing is that the person in charge is reliable and is sure to update the scoreboards regularly.
  • It's a good idea to keep a notepad file with all the scores, in addition to the scoreboards. That way, if there's a glitch in the scoreboard, the scores won't be lost. The person in charge of the scoreboards should keep a personal record of scores somehow. A simple text file works.
  • Please do not give the password to the host of a Trivia event and rely on them to update the scores themselves. One person should be in charge of the scoreboards, to avoid confusion and ensure that scores are not added twice, etc.
  • Scores should be updated as soon as possible after each event - preferably on the night of each event, but that isn't always possible. If the person in charge of the scoreboards isn't going to be online for a few days, for whatever reason, they can ask someone else to do the updating. However, they should make sure that they ask someone reliable, keep their personal record updated, and if needs be, check the scoreboard against their personal record as soon as possible.
  • And that's all, really. If you have any questions, as always, feel free to contact your DL, DLiT, TL, or ATL. Good luck!
